William Batchelder Bradbury

Bradbury was the most prominent American hymn composer of the mid-19th century, creating approximately 1,000 melodies for Sunday schools, revivals, and congregational worship. His simple, memorable tunes—including 'Jesus Loves Me,' 'Sweet Hour of Prayer,' and 'Just As I Am'—shaped evangelical hymnody profoundly. He published numerous influential hymnal collections and was a pioneering music educator in American Protestantism.
