Johann Schop

German composer and violinist active in Hamburg who created melodic lines for Lutheran hymns and sacred vocal music. He collaborated with hymn poets including Johann Rist, providing musical settings for German Protestant texts. Schop's hymn tunes remained in use throughout Protestant churches in Northern Europe.
