Johann Crüger

German Protestant cantor and composer at St. Nicholas Church in Berlin who composed melodies for many of Martin Luther's and other Reformation hymns. His musical settings, including the melody for "Jesu, meine Freude," became foundational to Lutheran hymnody and were used by composers including J. S. Bach.
