Henry Williams Baker

English clergyman and hymnodist who was vicar of Monkland and editor of the influential *Hymns Ancient and Modern* (1861). He wrote or translated over 400 hymn texts and was instrumental in shaping Victorian Anglican hymnody. Baker's editorial work standardized and elevated the quality of English hymn collections during the 19th century.
