Composer & LyricistAmerican evangelist, hymn writer, and composer associated with Dwight L. Moody's revivalist campaigns. He wrote and compiled numerous gospel hymns and sacred songs, particularly collaborating with composer James McGranahan. Whittle's hymns emphasized conversion, faith, and personal religious experience, and were central to late nineteenth-century American evangelical worship.
