Bernard of Cluny
Lyricist12th-century Benedictine monk and Latin hymn writer best known for his long allegorical poem *De contemptu mundi* (On Contempt of the World). His hymn texts, including the well-known *O Jerusalem* and *For Thee, O Dear, Dear Country*, were later translated into English and became standard hymns in English-speaking churches. His rhyming Latin verse style was influential in medieval hymnody.
